Vientiane, Lao PDR, 2 March 2021 – The Mekong River Commission (MRC) today released an interactive content of the new Mekong basin-wide development strategy and the MRC strategic plan to provide an easier access to users.

Hosted under the MRC website, the web content “Basin Development Strategy 2021–2030 and MRC Strategic Plan 2021–2025” covers 11 interactive sections, ranging from basin issues, challenges and risks to sustainable development opportunities, and strategy implementation.

With the aid of graphics and direct links to the MRC source data, users can move around each section seamlessly and can access the content from any device, be its desktop, tablet or smart phone.

For the first time, the BDS 2021–2030 is prepared for a ten-year period and emphasizes on the changing role of the MRC – from one primarily focused on cooperation for knowledge acquisition and sharing, towards comprehensive cooperation on water resources development and management across the entire Mekong River Basin.

Approved by the four governments of the MRC, the BDS is to be implemented by all relevant actors in the Mekong River Basin. The strategy aims at improving the state of basin conditions as measured by key strategic indicators in the environment, social, economic, climate and cooperation dimensions.

A launch is slated for late March during which time the print version of the strategy will be available.
