Dr Lam Hung Son is the Head of the Regional Flood and Drought Management Center (RFDMC) of the Mekong River Commission (MRC). Under the guidance of the Director of the Technical Support Division, Dr Lam leads the Center in providing river flood forecast on the mainstream of Lower Mekong River Basin (LMB) during the flood season and river flow monitoring during the dry season, flash flood guidance over the highland of the LMB, and drought forecast to the MRC Member Countries.
Dr Lam has more than 30 years of experience in civil/water resources planning and management; flood control and protection, and environment planning. He was a national coordinator supporting the implementation of the Initiative on Sustainable Hydropower and Integrated Water Resources Management Project under Viet Nam National Mekong Committee Secretariat before joining the MRC Secretariat as programme coordinator for the Flood Management and Mitigation Programme.
Prior to that, he held various senior positions at the Institute for Water Resources Planning (IWARP) in Vietnam, including Chief of Water Resources and Environment Planning Division, Chief of Water Quality Analytical Laboratory, Chief of Northern Water Resources Planning Division, and Chief of Representative IWARP Office in Central of Vietnam.
Dr Lam holds a PhD degree in Engineering from the Hanoi Institute of Water Resources in Vietnam, a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, and a Bachelor of Civil and Water Resources Engineering from the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering in Vietnam.
