Abstract

In an effort to maintain the hydrological and ecological conditions of the Mekong River, the Mekong River Commission’s Member Countries are embarking on a stage-wise joint development of a Basin-wide Planning and Management Framework for key Watersheds of the Lower Mekong River Basin (LMB). This report documents the collaborative efforts made on the identification of key watersheds that influence the Mekong River’s hydrological and ecological conditions. As well, exsiting institutional, governance and regulatory arrangement of these key watersheds have been reviewed and analyzed with both good practices and management gaps identified. The information documented in this report provides integral foundation for the development of a Basin-wide Planning and Management Framework and Project-based Action Plan for improved management of key watersheds of the LMB.
