Vientiane, Lao PDR, 24 July 2018 – The Mekong River’s water levels have increased rapidly during the period of July 15 – 24, with a rise of over three meters in some stations along the mainstream. But they are not at the alarm level yet.

Japan Re-affirms its Support for Mekong Irrigation Facilities Improvement

Cambodia, Lao PDR to formalise a new bilateral cooperation framework on fisheries management

Pakse, Lao PDR, 29 June 2018 – In order to cement the four-year-long bilateral efforts to address cross-border fisheries issues along the Cambodia-Laos border, the two countries have agreed to formalise a bilateral fisheries management body that would oversee collaborative activities to curb illegal fishing practices and increase fish stock in the Mekong-Sekong basin.

Lao PDR Submits Notification on the Pak Lay Hydropower Project to MRC for Prior Consultation

Vientiane, Lao PDR, 14 June 2018 – The Mekong River Commission Secretariat has received an official notification from the Lao Government that it will undertake the formal process of prior consultation on its Pak Lay hydropower project in the Pak Lay area in the Lao PDR’s northern province of Xayaburi. The run-of-river dam will operate continuously year-round and produce 770 megawatts of electricity.

Multimedia Project Launched to Increase Awareness on Bilateral Water Cooperation

Mekong water levels reach low record

The Mekong water levels during this early flood season from June to July are among the lowest on record, falling below their historical long-term minimum levels. But the situation is expected to get better at the end of July.
