MRC reaffirms its role as a platform for water diplomacy at a workshop

Vientiane, Lao PDR, 30 November 2016 – The Mekong River Commission is not only a technical body to provide scientific information for better water resources management in the lower Mekong basin but also a platform for water diplomacy to support water negotiations among the member countries, according to outcomes of its first ever workshop on water diplomacy which began yesterday at the office of the MRC Secretariat in Vientiane.

Siem Reap, Cambodia, 18th November 2016 – The MRC Secretariat organised its 3rd regional consultation of Mekong Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan (MASAP) on 18 November 2016. The meeting reviewed different national climate policies, addressed feedback and comments on the first draft of the MASAP and agreed on next steps for development of concept notes for trans-boundary adaptation projects.

Cambodia, Viet Nam Better Understand Transboundary Issues in Sesan-Srepok Sub-basins through a Field Trip

Buon Ma Thuot, Viet Nam, 26 August 2016 – Institutionalising cross-border mechanisms to assess impact of water resources development, monitor water flow and quality, and provide early warning of flooding are the priorities for the management of the Sesan-Srepok river sub-basins that located in Cambodia’s northeast provinces and Viet Nam’s central highlands, according to the MRC-supported Sesan-Srepok transboundary water resources management project.

Continued dialogue and cooperation essential for shared benefits and prosperity

Phnom, Penh, Cambodia, 1 August 2016 – It has been 20 years since the Mekong River Commission held its first Dialogue Meeting with its upstream partners China and Myanmar. Since then, the Dialogue Partners, as both countries are known within the MRC, have cooperated in several areas of water management, especially in sharing hydrological information and exchanging expertise.
