Regional Consultant for Training on diatom monitoring

Responsibilities / Tasks:
- Review the agreed biomonitoring/EHM methods for the Lower Mekong Basin, especially the diatom section;
- Make sure all training materials for field and laboratory works, data analysis and reporting are ready for hand-on practical training;
- Provide a lecture on diatom monitoring for all EHM aspects (theory, field and laboratory work, data analysis and reporting);
- Supervise trainees during hand-on practise in the field and laboratory;
- Comment on trainee’s assignment reports; and
- Prepare training report and submit to MRC ED
Qualifications and Requirements:
- PhD in biology or ecology with significant knowledge in freshwater ecosystems;
- Have a strong knowledge in diatom monitoring, especially the monitoring in the Lower Mekong Basin;
- Have a strong knowledge of river biology and ecology particularly in the Lower Mekong Basin;
- Familiarize with MRC’s Biomonitoring Methods for the LMB is a plus;
- Have statistical knowledge, multivariable analysis and diversity index are preferable;
- Experience in undertaking biological assessment and scientifically reporting;
- Excellent verbal communication ability, including ability to make positive and insightful contributions to the training and inspire learning motivation of trainees; and
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
