Vientiane, Lao PDR, 2 August 2021 - China’s plan to reduce outflows from its Jinghong hydropower station in Yunnan province has now been rescheduled to the end of August, says a notification from China’s Ministry of Water Resources.

The Ministry said the postponement was due to technical preparation but did not specify an exact new date yet, according to the same notification the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Secretariat received late Friday of July 30.

The outflows of water from the dam, according to the July 28’s notification, would be reduced to accommodate “power grid construction” over a 20-day period, starting from July 31 to August 20.

The MRC Secretariat will provide more update once it becomes available.
