DESCRIPTION:BACKGROUND\nThe MRC is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025\, marking three decades of regional cooperation in sustainable water management and transboundary governance. As part of the commemorative activities\, the MRC is organising a song competition to engage the public\, especially youth and musicians\, in celebrating the Mekong River’s significance. The competition aims to inspire creativity\, raise awareness of water sustainability\, and foster a sense of shared responsibility among the Mekong countries. \nOBJECTIVES \n\nTo celebrate the 30th anniversary of the MRC with a unifying artistic expression.\nTo raise awareness about the importance of the Mekong River in regional cooperation and sustaining livelihoods.\nTo engage the wider public\, especially young people\, artists and local communities in MRC’s mission and activities.\nTo strengthen public understanding of MRC’s efforts in transboundary water governance and environmental sustainability.\n\nTHEME AND GUIDELINES \nTheme: “Mekong: Our Shared River\, Our Common Future.” \nGuidelines: \n\nThe song should highlight the cultural\, economic\, and environmental significance of the Mekong River.\nLyrics should be in a Mekong regional language (Khmer\, Lao\, Thai\, Vietnamese) or English.\nThe song should be original\, and unpublished. Plagiarism or use of copyrighted material is not allowed.\nThe submission must be a completed song with full musical composition\, between 3 to 4 minutes long (instrumental beat or melody).\nParticipants can submit solo or group (up to 3 members) entries.\nThe song should convey positive messages of unity\, sustainability\, and cooperation.\n\nELIGIBILITY AND SUBMISSION \n\nOpen for singer-songwriters\, age 18-30\, from the four MRC Member Countries (Cambodia\, Lao PDR\, Thailand\, and Viet Nam).\nEntries must be submitted in digital format (MP3 or WAV)\, accompanied by lyrics and a short description explaining why the song meets the competition’s criteria.\nSubmissions will be accepted via https://forms.gle/SUZL6ZAAfCoZDDEy5\n\nSELECTION AND JUDGING CRITERIA \n\nOriginality and creativity (30%)\nRelevance to the theme (25%)\nClarity and impact of message (20%)\nMusicality and arrangement (15%)\nOverall production quality (10%)\n\nAWARDS \n\nFirst Prize: USD 3\,000\nSecond Prize: USD 1\,500\nThird Prize: USD 1\,000\n\nAll three awardees (or winning teams) will be invited to perform at the MRC 30th Anniversary during the Mekong Day event on 4 April 2025. \nNote: The MRC Secretariat will cover air tickets and daily subsistence allowance for the winning teams.
