Joint Actions, Joint Solutions! Communications for Transboundary Dialogue!

Communications work for bilateral projects for transboundary water cooperation was kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City in May 2015 with water experts and local stakeholders from four Mekong countries. The project teams discussed on target audiences and communication opportunities to promote transboundary dialogue, before heading to a field trip to Mekong Delta.

Irrigation Scheme in Prey Veng

The Mekon Delta project team on 23 October 2017 observed water management situations such as irrigation schemes and water control infrastructures, including dykes, in Prey Veng bordering with Viet Nam. The field trip is part of the Mekong Delta transboundary water resources management project under the MRC’s Integrated Water Resources Management Project.

Bank Erosion, Drought in Kandal

The Mekong Delta project team on 24 October 2017 visited the Bassac River to see bank erosion in Chrey Thom, which serves as the border between Cambodia and Viet Nam. This is part of bilateral efforts at the provincial level to build better water cooperation to improve the livelihoods of riverine communities.

Hydrology Monitoring Station in An Giang

The Mekong Delta project team on 26 October 2017 visited the MRC hydromet station in Tan Chau of Viet Nam’s An Giang province. The station measures flow, water level, sedimentation and water quality. The field trip is part of the Mekong Delta transboundary water resources management project under the MRC’s Integrated Water Resources Management Project.

Joint Coordination Mechanism Workshop in Dong Thap

Following the field trips, the Mekong Delta project team met at a joint workshop on 27 October 2017 to discuss the status of project implementation progress and discussed potential joint mechanism options to help address joint cross-border issues, including those observed during the trips.

Over two days in mid-September 2017, water specialists from four Mekong countries of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam shared lessons from bilateral water cooperation with about 200 representatives from the Mekong communities within Thailand.
