Closing Statement by H.E. Mr. Lim Kean Hor - The 18th Meeting of the MRC Council, Joint Meeting with the MRC Donor Consultative Group

Siem Reap, Cambodia, 09 Dec 2011

H.E. Mr. Lim Kean Hor, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia, Chairperson of the Cambodia National Mekong Committee, Member of the MRC Council for the Kingdom of Cambodia, Chairperson of the MRC Council for 2011/2012

Excellencies MRC Council Members
Distinguished Delegates
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to say with great satisfaction that we have come away with a productive outcome from our meetings over the past three days. I am glad to see that the Mekong Spirit of cooperation and trust has once again prevailed during our discourse and would like to convey my sincere gratitude to the valuable contributions and demonstrated cooperation from all Delegations.

Our Meeting this year dealt with a highly significant development for the MRC, which is the prior consultation process for the first proposed use of water on the Mekong mainstream. I am glad we were able to agree on how to implement the wishes of our four Prime Ministers in conducting further study on the sustainable development and management of the Mekong River, including the impact by mainstream hydropower projects to help us make informed decisions.

I would encourage all of you to take the opportunity to further engage in informal discussions and just enjoy each other’s company during the dinner this evening. Finally, I trust you had a pleasant stay here and have enjoyed the hospitality of the people of Siem Reap City. I also hope you have a memorable experience viewing the splendors of Angkor Wat tomorrow.

Once again, I wish all of you good health, happiness, and success in the year 2012 until we meet again for the next meeting in Lao PDR next year.

With this, I now declare the Eighteenth Meeting of the MRC Council closed.

Thank you very much.
