The 2nd Technical Symposium on “Environmental Protection from Large Infrastructure Projects in the Lancang and Mekong River Basins” was organized during 1st and 2nd July 2015 in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. The event has facilitated discussions and exchange of views and experiences between participants from the MRC Member Countries, China as well as the MRCS professional staff.

All participants were updated with current issues and the effort dedicated to environmental protection including the implemented mitigation measures. It was also an opportunity to explain the importance of new studies which have helped to shape new guidelines and tools essential for effective planning and development aiming at reducing transboundary impacts and reinforcing good cooperation among all parties. The participants agreed that this event was useful and will explore the possibility to continue with a 3rd Symposium. This 2nd Symposium is a continuation of the 1st Symposium (namely “Technical Symposium on Environmental Protection on the Lancang-Mekong Basin”) which was held in December 2012 in Kunming, China.
