Environment Division (ED)

Title: The Seventh Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission Regional Consultative Forum Meeting
Date: 07-09 May 2018
Venue: Cebu, Philippines
Summary: The meeting will discuss various priority agendas on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture development in the region. It will also provide the direction guidance and specific recommendations to the APFIC commission and member governments in ensuring the sustainability and resilience of fisheries and aquaculture sector in the region. The MRC Secretariat’s representative will deliver a presentation on “Promoting and implementing ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF), co-management approaches: Lesson-learnt in the Lower Mekong Basin” and hold a poster presentation on the Mekong basin-wide fisheries and management strategy.

 

Title: The Thirty-fifth Session of the Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission
Date: 11-13 May 2018
Venue: Cebu, Philippines
Summary: The session is open to all members of the Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission (APFIC), aiming to provide observes from other international organizations concerned with fisheries development and management in the Asia-Pacific region. The MRC Secretariat’s representative will participate as an observer.

Title: Regional Consultation Meeting on Review and Update of the MRC’ Sustainable Hydropower Development Strategy (SHDS2018)
Date: 7 May 2018
Venue: MRCS, Vientiane, Lao PDR
Summary: This regional consultation meeting brings together governmental officials from the member countries to discuss various things on the SHDS2018. Specially, the meeting will look at, among others, the proposed analytical methodology for the SHDS and the main data sources to be used, explain the MCs and stakeholder the consultation processes to be followed through the SHDS preparation, and provide an opportunity for small group discussion on key issues for the SHDS. Finally, it aims to collect MCs’ views on the methodology and data sources to inform the development of the initial analysis.

 

Title: The Sesan-Srepok and Mekong -Delta transboundary project joint meeting
Date: 10-11 May 2018
Venue: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Summary: This joint meeting is to provide feedback on an updated draft of 2S and Mekong Delta Transboundary Coordination Mechanism Options Paper(s) and to solicit an agreement on steps to finalize the papers. It will also set a stage on the preparation of the 2S and Mekong Delta Transboundary Joint Action Plans.

Title: Field Visit to HYCOS Stations in Cambodia
Date: 09-18 May 2018
Venue: Various Provinces in Cambodia
Summary: These field visits are to conduct technical investigation on station performance in order to provide technical support to repair non-functioning component of the stations and to update/upgrade firmware to the equipment and station.

Title: First Meeting of Expert Group on Strategy and Partnership
Date: 8 May 2018
Venue: Office of the MRC Secretariat, Vientiane, Lao PDR
Summary: This first meeting of the Expert Group on Strategy and Partnership will bring together specialists from the four Member Countries and MRC Secretariat to discuss several things related to enhancing and maintaining partnerships and international cooperation. Apart from first building a common understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Expert Group itself, the meeting aims to table for discussion the collaboration activities between MRC and the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation activities, MRC Council exchange visit to the Rhone River Basin and other basins, and the cooperation with Myanmar, Mekong-Korea and Morocco, among others.

Title:

Expert Group Meeting on the First Revision of the MRC’s Indicator Framework, and on the Third Draft of Guidelines for Transboundary Environmental Impact Assessment

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Summary:

The Expert Group Meeting on the First Revision of the MRC’s Indicator Framework aims to discuss and seek comments and feedback from all Member Countries on the first revision of the Indicator Framework document. Another Expert Group Meeting on Guidelines for Transboundary Environmental Impact Assessment will seek an agreement from the Member Countries on the third draft of the guidelines for further submission to MRC JC for consideration.

National Consultation Meeting on Review and Update of the MRC’s Preliminary Design Guidance (PDG 2018)

Date:

9-14 May 2018

Venue:

Thailand, Cambodia, Viet Nam

Summary:

The national meetings will provide background information on the PDG 2009, its content and application to date, and areas of improvement identified for update. They also will explain the PDG update process, report on the proposed updated preliminary Design Guidance (PDG 2018), explain the changes made, provide an opportunity for small group discussion on particular sections of the Design Guidelines and PDG2018. The meetings will finally solicit Member Country’s views on further edits to the Design Guidelines and PDG2018 V0.2 to inform preparation of the Design Guidelines and PDG2018 V0.3

Title: National Working Session on Review of National Indicative Plan (NIP) and Preparation of its Annual Work Plan
Date: 17 May 2018
Venue: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Summary: This national working session will bring together senior management from Cambodia National Mekong Committee Secretariat and its line agencies and staff from the MRC Secretariat to discuss the review of implementation of the National Indicative Plan. The meeting expects to agree on key elements of the NIP annual work plan (multi-year).

Title:

Discussion on the Implementation of the Joint Project “Lao-Thai Safety Regulations for Navigation”

Venue:

Bangkok, Thailand

Summary:

The meeting will bring together officials from the MRC Member Countries and representatives from the Secretariat to discuss the harmonization of navigation safety rules and regulations between Thailand and Lao PDR.
