Regional Forum on the MRC Climate Change and Adaptation Initiative

First Announcement

This is the first announcement for a Regional Forum on the MRC Climate Change and Adaptation Initiative. The event, organised by the Environment Division of the Mekong River Commission Secretariat, will be held 27-28 November 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Forum will comprise six technical and working sessions, featuring about 30 presentations from national and international experts (see attached brief with tentative agenda). The event will promote close dialogue and consultation among the MRC member countries and with relevant development partners and organisations in the Lower Mekong River Basin. It offers an opportunity to introduce and assess the MRC Climate Change and Adaptation Initiative, and to gain stakeholder feed back that can be used to refine the Initiative. The Forum will provide the member countries with a platform for exchange of ideas, concepts, experience and lessons learnt on climate change related studies. It will also allow gaps and needs of the Member Countries to be identified. The results will assist with formulation of a detailed workplan and activities for the next phase of the MRC Climate Change and Adaptation Initiative (2009-2012).

The Forum welcomes the participation of development partners, organisations and individuals professionally engaged in the topic and wishing to meet national and international experts on climate change and adaptation activities in the region and worldwide. Pre-registration and a more detailed agenda will be available in the second announcement.
